Raw Mango Kadhi

In Maharashtra raw mango kadhi is also known as “Kairichi Saar”. This can be served with chapati/steam rice. This is little sweet also because of coconut. The sweet n sour taste of this kadhi is liked by everyone.

Raw Mango Kadhi

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • Raw Mango – 2
  • Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
  • Pepper corns – 8-10
  • Onions – 1 cups (grated)
  • Ginger – ½ tsp (grated)
  • Green chillies – 3-4 (slit lengthwise)
  • Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Garam Masala – ½ tsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp + 2 tsp
  • Coconut Milk – 1 cup
  • Salt – to taste
  • Asafoetida (hing) – ¼ tsp
  • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Whole Red Pepper – 3-4
  • Curry Leaves – 15-20
  • Coriander Leaves – for garnishing

Method

  1. Add 4 cups of water in mangoes and boil till it is well cooked.
  2. Blend the mangoes in the mixer. Keep aside.
  3. Heat 1½ tbsp oil in a pan, add jeera, peppercorns, onion and stir fry for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add ginger, green chillies and stir fry again for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add pureed mango, mix it nicely.
  6. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt and mix.
  7. Add garam masala and let it come to a boil, mix again and let it cook on simmer for 6-7 minutes.
  8. Add coconut milk, mix and let it come to boil again.
  9. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  10. Now for tempering heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters add hing, curry leaves, whole red pepper and red chilli powder.
  11. Pour the tempering over the kadhi.
  12. Serve hot Raw Mango Kadhi garnished with coriander leaves.
  13. Serve with chapati/steam rice.
