Phalsa (Grewia asiatica) is an exotic shrub plant. The ripe phalsa fruits are consumed fresh, in desserts, processed into refreshing fruit drinks during hot summer months in India. It’s shelf life is very small. The colour is purple to black when ripe. The juice ferments so readily that sodium benzoate must be added as a preservative.
