Ingredients (8-10 servings)

  • Maida – 120 gms
  • Baking Powder – 1½ tsp
  • Cocoa Powder – 2 tbsp + 1 tbsp
  • Powdered Sugar – 120 gms
  • Butter (Melted) – 2 tbsp
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Walnuts (chopped) – ¼-½ cup
  • Vanilla Essence – ½ tsp
  • Brown Sugar – 100 gms
  • Salt – ¼ tsp
  • Boiling water – 2 cups

Method

  1. Pre heat the oven at 160°C.
  2. Grease a baking glass bowl of around 1 litre capacity. Keep aside.
  3. In another bowl, mix 1 tbsp cocoa powder and brown sugar. Keep aside.
  4. Sieve maida, baking powder, salt and cocoa powder together. Add walnuts, mix and keep aside.
  5. In a deep bowl add sugar, milk and butter. Beat a little. Add vanilla essence, mix and blend the flour mixture in it. Spread this batter evenly in the greased bowl.
  6. Sprinkle the brown sugar cocoa mixture evenly on top of the batter. Pour boiling water on it, do not stir.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the center of the cake is almost set. (Brown sugar, cocoa, and hot water will combine to form a chocolate sauce that will settle to the bottom of the cake during baking).
  8. Let it stand for 15 minutes.
  9. Now spoon into dessert dishes, taking sauce from bottom of bowl over top. Serve with ice cream.
