Coconut chutney is a South Indian spicy chutney side dish and condiment, a speciality common in North Malabar. This is a coconut stew mixed with other spices and served with Idli, Dosa, vada and even with cooked rice. This is also called as Kopra Chutney.
Ingredients
- Grated Coconut – 1 cup
- Roasted Chana – ½ cup
- Green Chillies – 3-4
- Ginger – ¼ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Dry red chillies – 2
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
- Curry leaves – 10-12
Method
- Grind coconut, chana, green chillies, ginger and salt together with little water (water as per the thickness of the chutney you need).
- Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, as they splutter add curry leaves and dry red chillies.
- Add this to the coconut paste and mix well.
- Serve with idli, dosa, vada, upma, pongal, etc…….
